A day at the fair

It has been a beautiful bank holiday Monday and I've had an amazing day so I'm in a really good mood. We headed to Knutsford fair  and straight for the crazy fast spinning ride which was the worst decision ever as I felt ill for 2 hours afterwards! As a roller coaster lover, heights and fast speeds don't bother me but the spinning motion? just no. After the worlds crappiest burger, we left the fair and sunbathed in the park before heading home. To end the day I walked to a beer garden with Charlotte for drink.

I created a colourful eye look today and left my bronze smokey eye comfort zone. I really liked the results and thought I would share with you the products I used.

  

This is the overall look, I fancied a change so I curled my hair, plus I felt mermaid waves kind of went with the eye.

The lower swatch is of the colours I blended to achieve the petrol smokey eye. 

Base: MeMeMe dew pot in autumn smoulder

Inner corner: MAC Vanilla pigment

Lid:

Inner 3rd: Duo-chrome blue/green from an old YSL palette (A similar colour would be something like Tilt from MAC)

Centre: I used the shimmery teal green from my Rimmel quad in 014 Bold behaviour ( a dupe would be Teal or Gulfstream from MAC)

Outer 3rd - MAC Cranberry

Crease: I didn't really define my crease too much to avoid detracting attention from the lid. I used a tiny amount of Kid from MAC to transition the colours.

Lower lashline: I repeated the same colours as on the lid but used my Urban decay 24/7 glide on eyepencil in underground as a base as it is waterproof and will prevent fallout or transfer under the eyes throughout the day.

Mascara: Lancome hypnose star, really need a new one of these, mine has dried up loads!

The finished look:

Here is what the make-up would look like with false lashes. I used Ardell demi pixies as these lashes are quite subtle and so the eyeshadows are still the focus of the look. I chose not to wear lashes with the look as I wanted the look to be more grunge than glamour.

The foundation debate: Series 1

I still am on the hunt for my Holy Grail foundation after trying lots of drugstore ones and a few high end so I have decided to review the foundations I have tried. My skin type is normal to oily and I look for a foundation to be long-wearing, medium coverage, matte or semi-matte, yellow undertone shades and for it not to break me out. I know I’m a bit picky. Here are some of the foundations I have tried and my thoughts on them, I will name my shade if I can remember:

Natural collection tinted moisturiser - Light:

 LAWD ABOVE do not even get me started on this one definitely the worst I have ever tried it was awful, seriously a hot mess, orange but also grey?? Patchy, streaky, cakey and oily... gross

Max factor experience - I've tried light ivory and raw silk:

hmm interesting shades, the lightest one had a lilac sheen to it and the second shade was extremely pink I prefer a yellow toned foundation, not banana yellow e.g. mac studio fix fluid NC20 but just a golden glow. Needless to say this foundation was not for me and also the coverage wasn't full enough.

Rimmel stay matte:

very orange and a cakey and kind of bumpy finish, overall I'm not keen. With both the Rimmel stay matte foundations I have experienced a stinging sensation when applying and I do not have particularly sensitive skin. Also this foundation oxidised so much and disappeared off my skin very quickly.

Rimmel stay matte mousse - 200 soft beige:

 Weird. Not a lot of coverage but very matte when I have tried to build coverage I just end up with a cakey finish as this foundation sets very, very dry. This dries very quickly so I struggled to get an even finish and ended up looking patchy and streaky.

Rimmel lasting perfection- Ivory:

 Quite a good finish when first applied although it does tend to slide as it doesn't control oil very well and also I found the shade range way too dark and orange even when using the lightest shade.

L’Oreal matte morphose - Golden Ivory:

I actually really liked this foundation surprisingly as I always steered clear of mousse foundations after seeing a lot of girls from my school scraping out dream matte mousse with their acrylic nails and slapping it on with no mirror *shudders* but this foundation gave a lovely soft focus finish and is very quick to work with. The texture is heavier than liquid foundation and up close it did look kind of fuzzy on the skin however my skin felt velvety and soft to the touch. As for oil control this did quite well and lasted for a good 5 hours on the skin. Overall the foundation is very easy to work with and gave a flattering soft focus look to the skin.
